'Manchester United is back, now it's time to win trophies' - Lindelof sees Champions League as 'a minimum'
The defender of the Red Devils is excited to see the side of
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer draw on its top four finish and tie up the glory of the
Europa League in 2020
Victor Lindelof sees Manchester United as "back,"
after wrapping up a top-four finish in the Premier League, but knows the time
has come for them to "start trophies
winning"
The Red Devils emerged victorious on the final day of the
Premier League season, in a decisive clash with Leicester.
A 2-0 victory over the Foxes has guaranteed football in the
Champions League for 2020-21, but Lindelof says that's the "minimum"
prerequisite for the status of a united player. To the Swedish defender,
measurable success needs to be complemented by elite European competition.
In what has been an elongated process, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 's side remains in the hunt for Europa League glory.
After taking down
Leicester, Lindelof told the club's official website: "When you're playing
for this club, you should always play minimally in the Champions League.
"We’re back now
and it's time to start winning trophies as well, because we've got to do that.
We've got one trophy left to win this season and to win trophies should always
be the mindset. The goal was to be back in the Champions League and we now have
another one: winning the Europa League.
United will return to
the continental stage on 5 August, in the second leg of their last-16 encounter
with LASK in the Europa League.
"To win is a
trophy and this club should always be aiming for trophies," added Lindelof
on the ambition of the Red Devils. "It is a wonderful chance for us and it
makes the players a little more relaxed to earn the Champions League spot
today.
